Kay Hermann - 5-Day Full-Day Preschool Teacher

I’ve been blessed to serve in Lutheran education for over 18 years, including more than 15 years at St. Peter Lutheran School. After 14 years here, I spent three years teaching at Immanuel Lutheran in Elmhurst, and I’m now grateful to be back at St. Peter, beginning my second year of this new chapter.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Education from Illinois State University, with a specialization in Middle School Mathematics. While my background is in math, God clearly led me to early childhood education, where I find great joy in nurturing the spiritual and academic growth of young learners.

Beyond the classroom, I’ve been involved in ministry through roles such as Vacation Bible School Coordinator, Stephen Minister, Bible Study Leader, Altar Guild member, and Scripture Reader in worship. These opportunities have deepened my faith and strengthened my desire to serve others.

St. Peter holds a special place in my heart—not just as my workplace, but as the school where both of my children, Austin and Jodie, graduated. My husband Tom and I are thankful to be part of such a faithful and supportive community.

What I love most about teaching here is watching children grow in their understanding of God’s love. I believe each child is placed in my classroom by God’s design, and I’m honored to be part of their journey.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring God’s creation through hiking, running, kayaking, biking, and camping. Some favorite adventures include running a marathon, climbing Mt. St. Helens, and hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon—reminders of God’s greatness and the joy of perseverance.
