PDO ELECTION!
Every four years, our country goes through another Presidential election. This event teaches many children about the voting process. Many kids will learn a condensed, child-friendly version of how these events take place. St. Peter's PDO teachers, Mrs. Engelhardt and Mrs. Strickland, took advantage of this election year and held their own election for their students to teach them about the process of voting.
St. Peter's PDO classes are made up of our youngest students at 2 and 3 years old. The teachers wanted to teach the kids about making choices and decisions. What better way to do that than to have them vote for their favorite sweet treat?! The options were cake, donuts, or ice cream. After explaining what was happening, the kids were taken into the hall and given their star. They were allowed to place their star under their favorite treat, thus casting their "vote". Once they voted, they were given an "I Voted" pendant to wear. Mrs. Strickland's students used red stars, and Mrs. Engelhardt's students used blue stars.
As one can see from the pictures, donuts were the clear winner! It was a very exciting time in PDO. Since not every student in PDO attends every day, the voting process took several days to complete. At one point, there was a tie for first place. The kids were so excited to get all the votes cast so that the teachers could finally declare a true winner.
Mrs. Engelhardt and Mrs. Strickland did a great job of helping the youngest St. Peter Saints understand that every vote counts and the importance of making choices. It was such a fun election week in PDO and taught a little bit about the election process at the same time. Donuts anyone?
