National Lutheran Schools Week

National Lutheran Schools Week
Each year for one week in January, National Lutheran Schools Week provides nearly 2,000 Lutheran schools across the nation the public opportunity to proclaim and celebrate God’s work in communities through the schools of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod. The theme for NLSW this year is “Sent to Serve,” and this week, the staff and students of St. Peter had numerous opportunities to serve others and to have some fun while doing it!

On Monday, our students honored St. Peter’s support staff by making thank you cards and posters to decorate the area where that staff member works. Their efforts were appreciated by the staff and brightened up many workspaces throughout the building.

Tuesday was “Move Up Day!” Many students were able to get a peek at what is coming up next year by visiting classrooms and teachers and enjoying something fun in the next grade. It was an exciting, busy morning in the middle of a snowstorm!

Wednesday, the students participated in the “Amazing Race” as part of chapel. After learning all the different Lutheran schools our staff attended worldwide, all of our classes had a detour to get through in their classrooms. The students worked together to put words in order, complete a puzzle, or solve a matching game. Once solved, the class was awarded a clue, and all the clues came together to reveal a message about God’s grace that is given to us each and every day, and that is what makes our school special!

Thursday, the students served others by making thank you cards and pictures to give 911 dispatch workers to let them know how appreciated they are for what they do. The kids also had a special visit from Luther, our school mascot!

The fun continued into Friday with virtual BINGO! The kids played in their classrooms as a group, and the prizes, which consisted of a choice of things like extra recess, a visit with Benjamin the Comfort Dog, or a no homework day, were for the whole class. Winners were Mrs. Ryg’s 6th graders, Mr. Huonder’s 3rd graders, Mrs. Smiegowski’s 1st graders, Mrs. Koclanis’ kindergarteners (all chose an Escape Room experience in their classrooms), Mr. Heick's 8th graders, Mrs. Drake's 1st graders, Mrs. Sustr's kindergarteners, and Mrs. Staehlin’s preschoolers (all chose an ice cream party).

It was a great week here celebrating NLSW and all the things that make Lutheran schools, and especially St. Peter, great.
