ST. PETER CELEBRATIONS
Everybody loves a good celebration, and St. Peter had many over the past week. It all kicked off last Friday, February 5, with the 100th day of school! Our students had been in school, in person for 100 days and that is worth celebrating! Mrs. Burrow, Mrs. Koclanis, and Mrs. Sustr made sure the kindergarteners celebrated in a big way. They decorated strips of ten squares with ten different fun things they have been working on so far in kindergarten. When the students completed all ten stations, they had a crown of 100 things they had learned! They participated in 100 different exercises, brought in “100” projects, flipped a quarter 100 times, drew themselves at 100 years old, and went on a Hershey Kiss hunt. Each class searched their classroom for 100 Hershey kisses with a number on the bottom from 1-100. When they found a kiss, they identified the number and placed it on the 100 charts. The kids had a fantastic day celebrating being back in school for 100 days!
That made Monday the 101st day of school, and our 1st graders celebrated with a movie day. They dressed up like dalmatians, complete with puppy ears and spots, and had some fun watching Disney’s 101 Dalmatians together in Bartz Hall.
The week continued with Valentine’s parties, class celebrations for the NLSW Bingo game prizes, and Reading Marathon for Mrs. Snively’s 4th graders on Thursday! The kids came to school in their pajamas. Some desks became forts, some students camped out on the floor, but all brought their books and blankets. While the fireplace video crackled away on the smartboard, the kids read their books in 15-minute blocks and then would roll a dice to see what activity they would complete about their book. It might be a sketch of the main character or to predict what would happen next in the story. There was no doubt the kids had a fantastic day diving deep into their latest independent reading books.
What a week of celebrations! And what a blessing to be in person celebrating all of these things together!
