50's DAY

KINDERGARTEN 50s DAY
Time flies when you’re having fun. Today is the 50th day of school, and our kindergarteners spent the morning celebrating all things 50s. The kids came to school in true 50’s fashion wearing poodle skirts, cuffed jeans, t-shirts, black jackets, and even vintage preppy styles! Some had slicked-back hair; others had ponytails; some had scarves – all looked great!

They started the day with a fun 50s packet that included things like drawing what they will look like when they are 50, a hidden picture, and a 50s-day word search (think diners, sock hops, and jukeboxes). There were also some math activities like tracing numbers from 1 – 50 and skip counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s to 50.

Zero the Hero, a favorite puppet friend in kindergarten, comes out every 10th day so today his visit was to talk all about 50’s day!

The kids had the chance to dance to some 50s hits and rock out to some tunes from Grease. It wouldn’t be 50s day without some hula hooping! It’s not as easy as it looks! They got to try bubble gum and learned (tried) to blow bubbles. Mrs. Ludy can blow some great bubble gum bubbles!! They made a root beer float craft together AND sampled some root beer floats themselves. If it was popular in the 50s, the kids had fun with it today!

It was such a fun morning for the kids that culminated in their costume parades this afternoon. They work hard all week in kindergarten so they earned some fun today while still learning about what life was like way back when. Happy 50’s Day!!
